About the Project
An art exhibition featuring works by five renowned Maltese artists, inspired by their recent journey to China, is currently being held at the China Cultural Centre (CCC) in Malta.
Now in its fifth consecutive edition, Inspired in China is an annual event organised by the CCC as part of its ongoing cultural exchange initiatives. The exhibition showcases a diverse collection of works by Maltese artists from various disciplines, each capturing their personal impressions and lived experiences during their time in China.
On one level, Inspired in China reflects the CCC’s commitment to fostering cross-cultural dialogue and building collaborative relationships between Chinese and Maltese artists and institutions. On another, it offers a visual interpretation of contemporary China through Maltese eyes—revealing the country's dynamic identity, cultural diversity, blend of ancient traditions and modern progress, breathtaking landscapes, and the warmth of its people.
Over the years, many prominent figures from Malta’s vibrant art scene have taken part in this initiative, transforming their travels in China into creative explorations that continue to enrich the local cultural landscape.
This summer, five distinguished Maltese artists—Alex Attard, Simon Barthet, Catherine Cavallo, Antoine Farrugia, and Darren Tanti—were invited by the Ministry of Culture of China, with the recommendation of Arts Council Malta, Spazju Kreattiv, and the Art Discussion Group, to visit Beijing and Henan Province. Their works, born from this journey, are now brought together in this compelling exhibition.
