About Darren Tanti
Darren Tanti (b. 1987) is an artist renowned for his thematically rich and technically accomplished work. His practice focuses on hyperreality and the exploration of experimental techniques, including the hybridisation of digital and academic forms of art. Throughout his career Tanti has evolved his practice by incorporating various media and exhibition formats. Tanti has participated in numerous art projects and exhibitions in international contexts. Among his most prestigious exhibitions are Time, Space, Existence at Palazzo Mora during the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2014 (curated by AP), and Homo Melitensis, where he was one of the artists representing Malta at the Venice Art Biennale in 2017, and the acclaimed Ostrale Biennale 2019 hosted in Dresden.
He has also taken part in all editions of the acclaimed APS Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale. Tanti received widespread recognition for his major solo exhibitions, including Ahmar Helu u Qares (2021), Inaction is a Weapon of Mass Destruction (2022) which was shortlisted for the Art Council Malta’s ‘Production of the Year; Visual Arts’ in 2023, Remember/Dismember (2023), and Apotheosis (2023) supported by the Valletta Cultural Agency. His works are held in numerous private collections in Malta and abroad, as well as in public institutions such as MUŻA and the Embassy of Malta in Washington, D.C. and the Benetton Foundation in Treviso, Italy.
As an educator, Tanti has over 15 years of experience across various educational levels. From 2016 to 2021, he served as Coordinator of Art and Fine Art, and he is currently a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts. He also lectures on the Master in Teaching and Learning programme at the University of Malta. He is currently appointed as ambassador for the visual arts by the Art Council Malta.
